To compare the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with facial massage and facial massage alone in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis during pregnancy. Method 62 cases of peripheral facial paralysis in pregnancy from the outpatient department were randomly divided into treatment group ( n =32) and control group ( n =30) . The treatment group was treated by acupuncture combined with facial massage, while the control group was treated by facial massage, once a day, 10 times as a course of treatment. Two courses of treatment were observed. House -Brackmann Scale, FDI Facial Disability Index Questionnaire and TCM Symptom Therapeutic Criteria of Facial Neuritis were used to evaluate the nerve function and disability index of patients with peripheral facial paralysis before and after treatment, and the difference of clinical efficacy between the two groups were observed. Result Compared with before treatment, the scores of somatic function, social function, symptoms and signs of TCM in the two groups were improved after treatment, and the difference was statistically significant ( P <0. 05) . Compared with before treatment, the total effective rate of the control group was 71. 43%, and that of the treatment group was 96. 55%. The treatment had good clinical efficacy, the total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference wasstatistically significant ( P <0. 05) . Conclusion Acupuncture combined with facial massage has better therapeutic effect on peripheral facial paralysis during pregnancy than simple facial massage. So, it is an effective and safe method for clinical treatment of peripheral facial paralysis during pregnancy.
