- Yan’ an was once the site of the Central Committee and the headquarter of the Chinese people’ s liberation struggle. Party of Central Committee and Chairman Mao were very concerned about the health of the working people during their stay in Yan’ an. They consistently adhered to the party’ s leadership over health work, to people’ s interests priority,and the principle of combining prevention with control. In addition, they always insisted on seeking truth from facts and attaching equal importance to both Chinese and Western medicine, consistently establishing and improving the medical and health institutions at all levels, and a health work network was gradually formed. Many valuable experiences which were accumulated at that time had a profound impact on the foundation of the party’ s various health work policies. Today,it is necessary to bear in mind the mission, and to summarize the experience of that time, building a health service system characterized by Chinese socialist characteristics.
